The Faroe Islands are located north of mainland Scotland and halfway between Norway and Iceland.

The Faroe Islands are a self-governing island territory of Denmark with population of nearly 50,000 people.

The island group (archipelago) is composed of 18 islands and is 113 km long and 75 km wide. The total area is approximately 1,400 km2 (540 sq mi). The largest and most populated island of the Faroe Islands is Streymoy.
