This means that some 56.138 passengers have used Vagar Airport the first quarter of 2016 compared to some 50.821 passengers the quarter of 2015.

Passenger figures at Vagar Airport (FAE) have experienced a continuous upturn since 2011. In 2015, a total of 272.385 traveled through Vagar Airport.

Airport had expected a fall in passenger-figures the first quarter of 2016, because the solar-eclipse of March 2015, gave Vagar Airport some 4000 extra passengers, but it has not happened.

"As the Faroese economy is strong and unemployment is low, there is big domestic demand for travel. Inbound demand and a rise in tourists and business-travel, is proving to me an excellent mix in order to continue growth" - says Jakup Sverri Kass, CEO of Vagar Airport.

Vagar Airport is continuing in investing in airport facilities and has recently bought two new firetrucks. This increases the airport preparedness from a CAT 6 airport to a CAT 7 airport. Other improvements are new measuring tools, new communications equipment in the tower etc.

The main caretaker of Faroese passengers is Copenhagen - 85% of traffic is directed to and from Copenhagen Airport (CPH).
